IN WHAT is being described as ‘a kind of live Desert Island Discs’ by its organisers, but without discs, a series of ‘In Conversation With…’ evenings at Liverpool Cathedral, begin on Thursday March 25 when Radio 2 presenter Janice Long will be interviewed by BBC Radio Merseyside's Dave Monks.
Her favourite songs will not boom out of a CD player, but will be performed live by Ian Prowse of Amsterdam and emerging Scandinavian-born singer Ragz.
Both were just a twinkle in the Liverpool music scene's eye when Janice helped give the city's astonishingly rich early 1980s musical seam its first showcase in its heyday. How? Via her BBC Radio Merseyside music programme, Streetlife, of course: essential Sunday night listening before Janice went on to mainstream success on Radio 1 - with all the glitter of presenting Top of the Pops that went hand in hand with that.
Janice, sister of Keith Chegwin, has since had two children, Fred and Blue, with partner Paul Berry.
Her inteview will be followed on Friday April 23 by another featuring photographer and performer Mike McCartney. The brother of Beatle Paul will talk about his career snapping of some of the biggest names in music history, his time as ‘Mike McGear’ in The Scaffold and his brief stint as a ladies’ hairdresser.
Further confirmed guests this year include actor and director David Morrissey and comedian and impersonator Peter Serafinowicz.
“These events bring together sons and daughters of Liverpool, some of whom are returning to the city for the first time in many years, and the interviewees will be from a variety of backgrounds including the worlds of acting, music, sport and commerce,” says organiser Gemma Aldcroft, of Geek Chic fame.
Tickets for ‘In Conversation With…Janice Long are on sale now and can be purchased here www.cathedralshop.com or by calling 0151 702 7255.
