I now understand why Mrs Malaprop anticipated the past.Loudly, in fact very noisily, a cast of eight play a group of 40 somethings as they wallow in nostalgia accompanied by music mainly of the late 70s.
A witty script and an interesting storyline neatly provide an interlude from the music. It helps the evening pass most enjoyably. The musical content is outstanding. Not for the fainthearted, the multi talented personnel sing wonderfully well, play all the instruments and ensure it has a professional feel.
The acting is of a uniformly high standard. Mention must be made of Francis Tucker who was excellent as " Nobby " in an ensemble without a weakness.
The audience were captivated by this rock n' roll story and were eager participants in singing, clapping and laughing. The beauty of the evening was in part down to the manner in which they joined in and enjoyed their visit wholeheartedly. This is froth, but judging by the pleasure it gave the spectators, this ability to create such a festive atmosphere on a cold midweek night was a total joy.
After a working day the escape to this fine production was a great treat. It deserves its popular success. As there are still nine performances left, do try to visit this show. I left the theatre with a smile on my face and 2 hours later it was still there.
This staging is unsuitable for anyone unwilling to throw themselves into a night of unremitting pleasure. Great fun.
