A Dead Funny offer

Terry Johnson’s Dead Funny is Oldham Coliseum’s new offering for February, and we have a great offer for Manchester Confidential readers, with half price tickets…

A Dead Funny offer

No joke, ‘Dead Funny‘ is dead funny. A contradiction in terms, or perhaps I have lost a proper sense of what this play is all about. Well you can be the judges, because that most enterprising of Greater Manchester theatres the Oldham Coliseum (www.coliseum.org.uk) is running the play from 1 - 24 February.

‘Dead Funny’ by Terry Johnson was first performed at Hampstead Theatre in 1994. It won numerous awards including Best New Play and Best West End Play, and was garlanded by Terry Johnson being named Playwright of the Year.

This is a multi faceted play for every age group, both sexes, and everyone interested in the theatre. Hilarious comedy in company with soul destroying tragedy, it explores the failure of marriage within the backdrop of an organisation aptly called the Dead Funny Society.

Set in Islington over the weekend in which both Benny Hill and Frankie Howard die, it gives the cast the opportunity to recreate the magical comedic sketches of these two as well as Morecambe and Wise, Max Miller and Tony Hancock.

Beautifully written, it evokes happy memories interspersed with heartbreaking moments as human relationships break down.

Oldham has assembled a great cast including Steven Pinder, Robin Askwith, Samantha Giles, Ben Hull and Kerry Peers. It promises to be one our local theatrical events of 2007.

Manchester Confidential has managed something very special for its readers. The Coliseum is offering the first 25 applicants half price tickets on all £17.50 seats for the performance on Tuesday evening 13th February.

To take advantage of this offer, Simply email Rachael at rachaelsneddon@coliseum.org.uk, mentioning Richard Burbage. You can book up to 4 half price seats for the performance. Sales are going very well, so I suggest you contact her now.

So there you are. Comedy, farce and tragedy for almost every sector of the community - and a great night spent supporting a wonderful regional theatre which punches far above its weight.
