I am a massive funk fan. Massive. I have already worn out my ‘Best of Jamiroqui’, despite only buying it a couple of weeks ago. Same with my Incognito cd.
But my love of the Brand New Heavies is on a totally other level.
I know that they are mostly remembered for ‘Midnight at the Oasis’, which is now being murdered in lifts all over the world, but they are so much more than that one song.
Especially now as this year has seen The Heavies reunite with their original singer N’Dea Davenport. They have also released a new studio album ‘Get used to it’ and bassist Andrew Levvy and N’Dea have featured on Robbie Williams’ recent chart hit ‘Lovelight’.
After a year of much excitement, The Heavies have now travelled back home for Christmas for two intimate shows in Manchester and London. ‘Get used to it’ was released in the UK in October, ahead of schedule to meet fans’ demand, on the band’s own label.
The UK shows precede the band’s first single to radio, “I don’t know why (I love you)” in January 2007, which will be the start of a year long UK campaign to support the album. How exciting!
The Manchester gig is being held at the Life Café on Monday 18th December. Tickets are just £22 and are available via 24 hr cc hotline: 0871 2200 260 or buy online at www.gigsandtours.com
I have got my tickets and will be up front like a goodun’ starting off my Christmas holiday in style.
If anyone would like to start a Brand New Heavies appreciation society with me, email here.
Or even better if there are any musicians out there that need a singer for their band, let me know and I will be round like a shot!
