Mark Kaye’s music column
All my mates love me at the moment, and I think it has everything to do with the fact they all want tickets to see Noel Gallagher and Gem from Oasis when they play at an intimate venue in town before Christmas.

Tonks announced this week that Xfm Manchester will be putting on an intimate gig with Noel and Gem on December 3rd, and you can win tickets by listening to Xfm next week. It will be a semi acoustic set of songs from their greatest hits album “Stop the Clocks" which was released this week. I never knew I had so many mates who loved Oasis but the phone hasn't stopped. It is going to be one of the biggest things they have done so try to get your hands on tickets next week.

Ian who reads my news on the show went down to the opening of the new Virgin meagastore this week to interview Sir Richard and New Order, and ended up sneaking a cheeky chat with Brandon from the killers who called in to see New Order as he is a massive fan.

Fresh from the Killers gig at the Apollo the night before, he was on form and didn't mind being asked a few questions about our great city and why he loves it so much. But Bernard from New Order wasn't too impressed and promptly told Ian “you have had thirty seconds, now leave my mate alone". It's not everyday that you get told off by one of your idols.

The Killers

Talking of the Killers gig at the Apollo, it was another amazing night at one of my favorite venues and they were on top form. They even said if it wasn't for Manchester they would probably not be making records - a nod to the musical genius of Oasis, New Order, The Smiths and every other Manchester band they grew up listening to. Nice touch.

The gigs are coming thick and fast, and after seeing Muse, The Killers and Vega4 recently I now can't wait to see Snow Patrol at the M.E.N next week. After first seeing them play at the Academy on one of their first visits to Manchester a few years ago it will be nice to see them at a sold out show at the arena. Their album is on my shortlist for my album of the year so I can't wait to see them.

Finally Xfm Manchester’s Rock school is going well and the amount of under 18 talent in Manchester is amazing. We have had some amazing entries from bands doing a whole range of cover versions and it's not long now till we find the winner who will open up Xfm's Winter Wonderland gig at the Apollo for the Manic St Preachers on Friday December 8th. If you have any friends or know someone who has entered don't forget to vote for them on line at xfmmanchester.co.ukVoting starts this Friday.
