Mark Kaye's music column
Manic Street Preachers

Thanks to my big boss who is mates with James Dean Bradfield, I have been listening to some of the new Manics stuff this week and it's brilliant.

They have been in Ireland working on the new album "Send Away The Tigers", and the first single looks like being a track called "Your Love Alone Is Not Enough" which features one of my favourite vocalists Nina Persson from The Cardigans.

Other big songs on this amazing album – their first for three years – include "Indian Summer", the title song "Send Away the Tigers", "Autumn Song" and "I'm Just a Patsy".

Fans can download a track called "Underdogs" for free on March 19th from the band’s website, so real Manics fans should be happy - it's crackin!

Inspiral Carpets

My colleague and friend Clint Boon is back on the road with his band The Inspiral Carpets this week so you know where I will be Friday night. The band is back in Manchester to play The Academy at the weekend. It will be great to see them play again and hopefully I'll see some of you there. He knows how to pick a night though, Arcade Fire play the Apollo on the same night so that's two gigs in one night and some serious running about to do.

Xfm’s first birthday

This month at Xfm Manchester we are celebrating being one year old and there is loads going on. We’ve got Ash playing an exclusive live session for ticket winners next Tuesday as well as loads of other gigs throughout the month including Travis and X-Posure Live. Something else to listen out for next week is the chance to live like a star in the Caribbean with our Lucky Dice to Paradise competition. Check out www.xfmmanchester.co.uk for more info and a glimpse at the great prize you could win. You can also enter by playing an online game, so it’s well worth checking out.

Man Utd celebrate 50 years

The birthday party with Ash is, unfortunately, on the same night that I have been invited to stand in the tunnel at Old Trafford for the charity game to mark United’s 50th year in European football. David Beckham will be returning to his former home for a Man U vs Europe X1 match that will see stars such as Steven Gerrard, Ronaldinho and Henrik Larsson taking to the pitch. More running around to do that night then!

There will be a special presentation at the ground with some exclusive interviews with former legends, followed by Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer walking out with the Champion’s League cup which they helped win. Becks won't be playing due to a recent injury but will be in the tunnel, so I can tap him up for a loan! Fingers crossed the mighty man himself turns up as well - to see Eric Cantona there would be amazing.

Versus Cancer

The Versus Cancer gig at the Arena on March 30th is going to be one of those special nights too so make sure you get a ticket or you will really, really miss out. Paul Weller confirmed last week and will be joining the already amazing line up which includes The Charlatans and Ian Brown. There are still more names to be announced though so keep listening, it's going to be massive!

If you are a fan of live music you will want to say you were there, trust me, so get a ticket before it's too late and listen to Xfm next week for another announcement. I'm really looking forward to broadcasting my show from backstage on the day, it’s going to be great. Also, I just want to mention Smiths bass player and colleague Andy Rourke who has organised this amazing event for charity. He is just a remarkably nice, humble man and it’s so good of him to put something together like this. Meeting him at Xfm has been one of my highlights from the last twelve months. Versus Cancer will also be a rare chance to see Andy Rourke play, so make sure you’re there.

Bye for now…

And finally, a quick word to say I am going on holiday the week after next so I will speak to you all on my return. Don't forget there is a football match to be played between my listeners and the listeners of Jason Manford’s breakfast show… it's war!!! Well, it’s just meant to be a bit of fun really. If you want to join in or just come down to watch keep listening for details.
