Mark Kaye’s Music Column

Well, it’s been another busy week here at the Xfm studios, with lots of late nights and the usual rock ‘n’ roll behaviour.

This weekend Xfm Manchester and o2 live sessions present " Breakthrough" at In the City, so I’m looking forward to a couple of amazing nights of live music at Manchester’s newest live music venue 235 live. Sunday 29th sees Larrikin Love, Little Man Tate and Battle take to the stage and then on Mon 30th the Longcut, Ali love, Vega 4 and local lad Liam Frost wrap up Breakthrough. Liam will be performing an acoustic set of tracks from his debut album ‘Show me How the Spectres Dance’ – I can't wait for that as you might remember that I mentioned it was one of my favourite albums in my introduction last week.

On the subject of live music Xfm Manchester are bringing the world’s biggest band to a tiny venue on Nov 22nd. You could be there in the crowd to witness musical history in the making when the Red Hot Chili Peppers play at an intimate exclusive venue for Xfm listeners. If you wanna be there just keep listening to Xfm to find out how - or just bribe me.

Off the subject of music for one moment, (which you might’ve by now realized is one of my passions) and on to my other love – football. Last season I had a love-hate relationship with my team Man U, but this season it is all love! Had cash on Scholes to score his goals so quids in all round! Rio is coming in to Xfm next week to hang out with our team and fill us in on what he has been up to off the pitch, so will keep you posted on that one next week.

Now back to Manchester’s awesome live music scene. Gnarls Barkley will be in town to play one of my favourite venues, the Apollo, on Nov 3rd and they will be on my show on Mon 30th to talk about the gig and also to promote their new single ‘Gone Daddy Gone’ which is a cover of the Violent Femmes track.

My other top two gig recommendations over the next fortnight are Jet at the Academy on November 4th and of course the Scissor Sisters at The MEN Arena on November 6th - but these tickets are now like gold dust.

And finally, I overheard my boss on the phone this week talking about something very cool that will be happening just before Christmas, which is going to be massive. I can't tell you what it is just yet because it would result in me being fired, so keep listening to Xfm for a huge announcement soon.

One last thing, if you want a bit of a laugh, and you happen to have some spare time on this dull Friday afternoon, click on the www.xfmmanchester.co.uk The Xfm Advert – The Directors Cut, to see what really happens behind the scenes here!

Have a great weekend – COME ON YOU REDS!
