John Barrowman headlines BBC Proms in the Park in Salford

What does John Barrowman do exactly? Is he an actor, a TV presenter, a singer or a dancer? In the celebrity world, he's a jack of all trades. He is the ultimate showman and he'll be adding the BBC Proms in the Park to his repertoire on Saturday 11 September.

He's the headliner of this year's concert at Buile Hill Park in Salford. Although he's best known to mass audiences as time traveller Captain Jack, in Doctor Who and Torchwood, he's got a long history as a leading man in musical theatre, including a nomination for an Olivier Award. He's also made several albums of musical numbers, including a new one that has just been released.

At Buile Hill Park, he'll be joined by world class mezzo soprano Juliette Pochin and Salford opera sensation Jon Christos who went down a storm at the 2009 concert. Along with the award winning BBC Philharmonic, they'll be putting on a performance of popular numbers and rousing classics. Likeable, talented, and larger than life, Barrowman is the perfect man for the job and is sure to make it a night to remember.

Salford is one of only five cities putting on a BBC Proms event and the only English city outside London. It was chosen because of a developing new partnership between Salford City Council and the BBC Philharmonic which hopes to build links between the orchestra and local communities ahead of the BBC's arrival in the city in 2011.

8,000 music lovers are expected to fill the park on 11 September. It's the biggest ticketed event in Salford's calendar and is selling out fast. Picnics, flags, fireworks, and thousands of voices will join together in song in true Proms style – it’s going to be spectacular!

Proms in the Park in Salford takes place on Saturday 11 September at Buile Hill Park. Gates open at 4pm, performances start at 6.30pm. Tickets are priced at just £20 so book now to avoid disappointment. To book, click here.
