What do you do?
Well, I write tunes, sing songs and play guitar in a band called The Kings – been busy the last few months changing band members, coming up with new ideas and now it’s definitely on fire – bring on the summer!
Other than that you’ll more than likely find me pulling shapes in The Northern most weekends.
What types of music do you like?
I’ll listen to anything depending on what mood I’m in. I mean I love British guitar music, The Who, The Faces, The Stones, The Jam, The Kinks, Oasis etc...But I’m most passionate about my Motown – got to love those Detroiters. They’ve given us so much great music. Legends.
If I’m feeling naughty, I might like a bit of rave music or disco. Music’s for moods, isn’t it?
What's the song that means the most to you and why?
I struggled with this one, I’ll be honest. Everybody’s got a few songs which remind them of certain things...I’ve got hundreds.
Jackie Wilson's 'Higher and Higher' means a lot to me. We were on tour in Germany when I was about 17 (in The Pedestrians) and we used to cover that song. People used to think it was our song…fun times. I remember a couple of stage invasions during this tune as well.
But if I was to narrow it down and pick out which of my top 10 means the most, it’d probably be Jimmy Ruffin's 'Farewell is a Lonely Sound'. The imagery in this song is amazing...everybody’s had one of them moments. It's another piece of magic from Hitsville USA.
1 'Farewell is a Lonely Sound' by Jimmy Ruffin
2 'Higher and Higher' by Jackie Wilson
3 'Aint No Mountain High Enough' by Diana Ross
4 'Shout to the Top' by The Style Council
5 'I Need You' by The Beatles
6 'Rockin’ Chair' by Oasis
7 'I Want You' by Bob Dylan
8 'Move On Up' by Curtis Mayfield
9 'On the Beach' by Neil Young
10 'Too Busy Thinkin About My Baby' by Marvin Gaye

the frog chorus?
simon t - i know liam very well, he drinks in a bar i dj in all the time and i must say he doesnt claim to be a 'mod' nor a 'britpop' kid - he just likes having a good time and a good dance! as you can see from the collection tunes.. theres a whole range! not just a stereotype!
the beatles were rubbish too.and they're dying in the wrong order.
How did the Style Council and Oasis get into this list? Both unworthy of being listed alongside Jimmy Ruffin, Dylan, Curtis Mayfield etc. Especially The Style Council. Yeuch.
This is actually a surprisingly good playlist, didn't expect these kind of tunes from Kings front man, really enjoying them.
Great list and a worthy list doer!
Simon, in the sixties this guy wasn't alive - neither was I! I think from Liam's choices you can tell this is what he likes rather than some collection supposed to make him look cool. I love the motown!
I think it's evil to call someone you don't know whose story you only think you know courtesy of tabloid intrusion and sensationalism " that one legged harpy". Young Liam Manton, meanwhile, seems to have fallen for the whole Britpop/pseudo Mod nonsense. In the sixties no self-respecting mod would ever have liked the Beatles.
I think it evil of you to want paul mccartney to die. He has young children who would be left fatherless. It is bad enough that he was treated so terribly by that one legged harpy who fleeced him. He knows one day he will be reunited with the lovely Linda and they can sing together for the angels in heaven.
