Hacienda 25 The Exhibition

Your chance to step back in time with Urbis and get 20% off food as well.

Published on July 16th 2007.

Hacienda 25 The Exhibition

It has been 25 years since Haçienda opened its famous Fac 51 doors. It was here that many of you may recall a torrid tale (or twenty) just as bass player for Joy Division and New Order, Peter Hook does. He said: 'The weird thing about the Haçienda is that it's actually got a lot of painful memories, as well as a lot of great memories. It's also got a lot of no memory.'

At Hacienda 25 The Exhibition, the magic can be rekindled for those who do remember, those who can't remember and other intrigued generations. Explore the origins, life and legacy of the club, which undeniably played a huge part in defining modern Manchester’s identity and prompted the city’s economic boom.

Vaughan Allen, Chief Executive of Urbis said: “The Haçienda changed Manchester forever. It did 25 years ago what Myspace does today, bringing together creative people to create something new. This exhibition is a timely reminder that many share the view that ‘The Haçienda Must Be Built’.”

The exhibition includes the first ever showing of the complete collection of The Haçienda’s iconic ‘Birthday Posters’, along with many rare, unique and previously unseen items from the personal collections of Tony Wilson, Peter Hook, Ben Kelly and Rob Gretton. The exhibition is on from July 19- Feb 2008 and is well worth a look in. As well as checking out the Haçienda displays, Manchester Confidential readers can also enjoy discounted food in Urbis’ café, the Social.

With a fresh summer menu, built around regional, British, locally sourced food, it’s the ideal spot for an outdoor (or indoor) nibble.
