Gospel Choirs from across the UK will join forces at the Royal Northern College of Music on Saturday 25 June to celebrate the life of Walter Hawkins.
Oh Happy Day! will bring together a mass choir to pay homage to this remarkable American who many regard as one of the godfathers of contemporary gospel choir music.
Led by music director Audrey Mattis, the evening will also feature some of the UK’s leading gospel musicians and singers who will perform many of Hawkins songs, including Oh Happy Day! which became one of the first gospel songs to cross over into the mainstream music charts when he recorded it alongside his brother Edwin in 1967.
