So Manchester Confidential was wandering around town on Saturday at a loose end and thought hey, we know.
Ruby Lounge and Mrs Boon's Tea Party at the Ruby Lounge, hosted by Inspiral Carpets and XFM DJ Clint Boon, seemed just the thing.
It was a good choice, because Franz Ferdinand was there. Nope, not the long dead Austrian Archduke who’s murder started World War One, but the band from Glasgow.
Local band, Sonic Boom Six started the entertainment with an uncharacteristically up beat show. The usual decorating workshops and story time for kids young and old with Mrs Boon, took place, but without Mrs Boon, who couldn't attend due to morning sickness. Her replacement were great fun though.
Then came Franz Ferdinand or rather two members of the group, Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy. With the kids sat at the front they did an acoustic show playing a range of songs from their back catalogue such as, Take Me Out, The Dark of the Matinee and No You Girls. They sounded razor sharp and clear had a right blast at this small jovial gig.
After the songs the boys had a natter to audience members and fans. Then they ate cake, then they left to get ready for their show at the Apollo that night.
It was a grand occasion all round. Cake brings people together simple as that.
