Vicky Martin Preview

Published on October 4th 2005.

With the North West smile Comedy Awards fast approaching, the girls of Manchester Confidential have started the hunt for dresses. Considering we’re going to be sharing the pink carpet with the ladies from Hollyoaks and Coronation Street these dresses can’t be any old dresses. The trusty LBD from the back of the wardrobe just isn’t going to cut it.

At the Cricket fashion show a few weeks ago, there was a definite shortage of beautiful dresses to fit my post-university budget. So, when I heard that there was an invite to the private Vicky Martin preview being bandied about the Manchester Confidential offices, I was more than keen to get my name on the list!

Vicky Martin; successful Manchester designer of uber glam and seriously slinky clothes. She now has 2 stores in Manchester – a boutique in the Triangle and a concession in Selfridges - as well as outlets in Leeds, Birmingham, Liverpool and Glasgow.

My friend and I arrived at the Triangle boutique to be greeted with gorgeous pink cocktails, courtesy of the swanky Odyssey cocktail bar. Vicky Martin herself was mingling with Manchester’s beautiful people and I managed to have a chat with her (after overcoming my jealousy that one of the girls present had the much-coveted Chloe Paddington bag!).

Like most of us, Vicky is sick and tired of the boho thing – even Sienna has moved on. It’s time to send the gypsy skirt to the charity shop. The new collection is a celebration of the feminine silhouette. Inspired by glamour, elegance and sophistication, boho layering is long gone. Delicate chiffons, hand painted silks and embellished laces that skim the figure are clearly in. Just the thing for the Comedy Awards…………

Limited edition couture pieces were on sale for one night only. And, after seeing Emmerdale star Verity Rushworth modelling a beautiful 70’s inspired creation in autumn red, fellow Emmerdale-er Adele Silva, was keen to snap it up herself. Look out for it on a red carpet near you!

After realising that I was seriously considering whether I could afford to buy three dresses, it was time to leave. Whilst most of the guests headed off to party at The Circle into the small hours, we somehow ended up at a 50 Cent concert, but that's another story………………..
