Tweeze me baby

There’s an old saying which goes something like this: “The eyebrows are sisters, not twins”. But if mine are anything to go by they’re cousins five times removed.

Tweeze me baby

There’s an old saying which goes something like this: “The eyebrows are sisters, not twins”. But if mine are anything to go by they’re cousins five times removed.

I consider eyebrow shaping to be the most technical of the face-perfecting rituals and unless you have a masters in the art of symmetry, I would highly recommend enlisting the help of a professional.

As Manchester is a little bare in those that solely specialise in eyebrow shaping, we’re honoured that London based celebrity eyebrow shaper Shavata is at Harvey Nichols every Thursday to tame those wayward brows.

Shavata doesn’t work on the ethos that one size fits all, she custom fits your brows based on your personality, face shape and what sort of look you have ie natural, defined or styled. As one who doesn’t pile on the slap, she leaves mine quite heavy but arched a la Brooke Shields (I wish).

Shavata says: “Eyebrows have always been a passion of mine. The entire process of creating the perfect arch fascinates me, and I am constantly thinking of new ways to make this previously daunting beauty task simpler for my clients.”

Within approximately three minutes, my caterpillars are waxed, snipped, plucked and combed with the efficiency and skill of an award winning sheep shearer. And although they are slightly pink and raw, they look mighty fine. In fact, sooo impressed was I, I raised a brow and flashed a smile in the reflection of many a shop window on my way back to the office.

With weekly plucking by your own fair hands to keep the stragglers under control, eyebrows need Shavata’s professional touch every three weeks. With prices starting from £21, it’s an affordable way of keeping your face nicely framed.

The dainty and ethereal Shavata comes complete with her own brow products available at Urban Retreat in Harvey Nichols. It’s a fantastic range, developed based on Shavata’s 19 years experience in the eyebrow industry. I particularly love the pincer-like tweezers,£19.50, which annihilate the stubborn little buggers, which cause in-growing hairs.

To book an appointment with Shavata, phone Urban Retreat at Harvey Nichols on 0161 828 8888. Shavata’s products are available from Harvey Nichols, QVC and via mail order on 020 8997 1089.
