T20 cricket at Lancs

Be bowled over this summer at Old Trafford

T20 cricket at Lancs

CRICKET has been transformed thanks to the innovative T20 format, which has created a simplified and ultra-quick form of the game and attracted new fans.

The recent sell-out Roses game between Lancashire and Yorkshire had a fantastically varied crowd, with some fans in fancy dress, enjoying the occasion as much as the game.

It makes for a rare sight at the bar, as middle-aged gents vied for elbow room with men from Leeds dressed as Elvis and toga wearers from Burnley.

The game was a tight affair with advantage flitting back and forth, there was plenty of good natured banter between rival fans too. The fact that they aren’t segregated only adds to the atmosphere.

Yorkshire eventually edged the result and even the Lancashire fans milling out couldn’t deny they’d witnessed an impressive spectacle.

If you haven’t been to a cricket match before, T20 could be the perfect introduction and by 2012 Old Trafford will have some of the finest facilities around for watching sport anywhere.

There haven’t been as many games as usual at Old Trafford this year as the stadium undergoes a major refurbishment. The club has already opened The Point, a new £12m conference and events centre which has already held a number of high-profile events.

The renovations will eventually restore this historic old ground back to the international sports venue it once was, making it ready for Test cricket as well as T20.

Until then though, there aren’t many better ways of spending your summer evenings.

There are still plenty of games left- you can find information of fixtures and how to buy tickets here.
