Supermarket chic

Stylist, Kate Harrison takes a trip down the aisles to find style at a snip

Published on September 11th 2009.

Autumn is fast approaching and with both designer and high street stores busting at their oh-so-chic seams with tempting fashion must-haves, it’s enough to send any cash-strapped lass quivering in a wreck of last seasons cast-offs. But fear not, if your eyes are bigger than your credit crunched wallet be supermarket savvy this autumn with my pick of the best styles from the isles...

Asda ditched Coleen, and seem to have chucked all their cash at delivering bang on-trend designer knock-offs in their autumn George collection. There are some seriously sneaky pieces if you have a good trawl.

Asda ditched Coleen, and seem to have chucked all their cash at delivering bang on-trend designer knock-offs in their autumn George collection. There are some seriously sneaky pieces if you have a good trawl, my favourite being this gorgeous shoulder enhancing grey number that bares a striking resemblance to the Balmain number seen recently on Kate Moss. At £16, I think our wallet prefers this one though.

As always, Sainsbury’s TU collection does work wear proud this season, producing great quality tailoring at rock bottom prices. Pick of the bunch is this cute fuscia pleat front blouse £15 and the wardrobe staple black pencil skirt at just £16. Team with killer heels and a waist belt for extra va va voom.

If a stylish winter coat is on your shopping list but the pennies are a little tight, try this bang on trend dogtooth number for just £45 at Tesco. Perfect for those dark chilly mornings, it's just one of a fab range of winter woollies available in store now.

My final nod has to go to Matalan- Ok so they are not strictly a supermarket, but they have done a seriously good job this season, especially on shoes. This killer pair of heels looked soooo good, I had to grab them for myself and every single one of my designer loving friends has fallen over themselves for them. At just £18 grab yours quick.

Now it’s your turn to go wild in the isles. Enjoy.
