Super sales me

Kathryn Whittaker bargain hunts on the high street

Published on July 31st 2007.

Super sales me

The high street looks like a jumble sale, women are fighting over the soiled and damaged bin and the weather is miserable - looks like sales time is here again.

But instead of chucking your cash at anything with a 70% off ticket, follow my three top tips on being a sales savvy style goddess.

1: Go all posh
Sales time is your opportunity to upscale a bit on the shops that you choose, so instead of roaming aimlessly around your favourite haunts why not tread the golden paved designer path while they have opened it up to your price bracket. Designer sales are a great place for investment purchases - the ever stylish mulberry bag, the DKNY trench or the Missoni scarf are all safe options that will see you through at least another couple of seasons. Think classic and you cant go wrong.

2. Surf it baby
If the thought of the sales scrum sends a shiver down your spine then help is at hand. You can still make the most of the reduction fest by opting for some online retail therapy. All major retailers’ sales continue to their online stores and some even discount further for their ‘virtual’ customers. Plus you can do it in your PJs with a nice glass of vino watching Midsommer Murders – looovveeellyy. My fave online bargains can be found at www.vivaladiva.com where there is up to 50% off scrummy shoes, all sorts of treats in store in the ‘on offer’ section of www.boohoo.com, gorgeous mini dresses and skimming shorts a plenty. Or for you designer divas visit www.net-a-porter.com for up to 50% off Chloe, Marc Jacobs and Miu Miu bags - nice.

3. Make Me Over
Try rummaging the bargain bins in Boots and the like for make-up and beauty bargains that are pure gold. Some suppliers change their product packaging for the autumn/ winter campaigns so you can get perfectly fabulous goods for magnificently mini prices. Don’t be put off by the odd bashed box but just check out the use by date before you purchase.

Now the fun bit - put these three gems into practice and you can’t go wrong. Remember if you can’t find anything- that’s even better because you can spend the cash in the yummy autumn collections that will soon be gracing our streets - I cant wait. Stay tuned for my low down on what’s hot as the days get cooler (hopefully not too soon though).

Enjoy ladies

Kathryn
