While the designers exhibited their wares on the runway at Fashion Weekend Manchester the competition in the fashion stakes spilled out onto the streets.

Tia Maria fashion scouts took to the streets, searching for the hottest looks that epitomised Manchester’s ‘fashion on the street’.

In photographing and speaking with a wide range of stylish people, several key themes emerged that help to define the unique nature of Manchester fashion.

We’re pleased to reveal that the overall consensus was that creating an individual style was a fashion essential.

A pride in appearance also seemed to be a common trait. Indeed, dressing for any occasion and expressing oneself was regarded as very important.

Vintage and one-off items were hot favourites with the Northern Quarter being the number one destination. However the high street retailers also proved popular for staple wardrobe items.

Looks spotted echoed many of this season’s trends such as grey, tunic tops and man-style shirts with volume in the sleeves, cinched at the waist and higher with large vintage belts.

All in all, it seems to be about making an effort with fashion, regardless of your individual style – a point demonstrated by those on the streets of Manchester.
