Spinningfields to stage summer of live entertainment

To celebrate the warmer days and lighter summer nights, Allied London has announced plans for a summer of free live entertainment at Spinningfields - Manchester’s new dining district.

This Thursday will see the Spinningfields’ Leftbank Stage set up residence to host live lunchtime entertainment every Thursday, Friday and Sunday to celebrate the summer months in style along the bank of the River Irwell.

The Leftbank Stage, surrounded by a host of first class restaurants, will feature an array of performers including jazz musicians, street performers and live theatre groups to entertain the Spinningfields crowds.

The first weekend at Spinningfields will be inspired by jazz music, courtesy of performers from Just Jazz which is home to the North West’s premier jazz musicians. On Thursday 19 and Friday 20 June, 12pm-2pm, The Dixie Kings will entertain crowds with their New Orleans inspired ‘Dixieland Jazz’, playing well known jazz, blues and popular standards from the 1920s and 1930s.

On Friday evening between 6pm and 8pm, the Just Jazz Quartet will take to the Showcase Stage to perform jazz with a Latin flavour.

Interest in the forthcoming shows from the Just Jazz musicians and The Dixie Kings has been so high that the organiser has already confirmed both acts for a return visit to Spinningfields in August.

The Manchester School of Samba will be livening up Spinningfields on Sunday 22 June with a Samba Carnival. The band, who have been entertaining crowds in the city centre and beyond for over ten years with their mix of Brazilian carnival drummers, percussionists and dancers, will be on hand to entertain the crowds on Sunday from 12pm to 2pm. Crowds at Spinningfields are urged to arrive early to enjoy the Latin American-inspired beats in the sunshine.

With a wide range of free events planned for the coming months including weekly performances from classical and jazz musicians, comedians and theatre groups - and the opportunity to dine alfresco at one of the many top-class eateries on offer - summer is set to be action packed at Spinningfields.

Other acts set to perform on the Showcase Stage over the coming weeks and months will be announced shortly.

Spinningfields is situated off Deansgate, between Bridge Street and Quay Street.

Entertainment will be taking place on the Leftbank Stage which is situated on the banks of the River Irwell at the end of Hardman Boulevard.
