Love Music Hate Racism
Since its launch in 2002, the Love Music Hate Racism campaign (LMHR) has come a long way. The hundreds of events have even led to an annual outdoor festival in Trafalgar Square. The idea is to celebrate diversity, bringing people together through music to oppose racism and fascism.
Skinnyman, The Elementals and 28 Costumes are just a few of the acts stepping onstage this Sunday at the Picket for the campaigns Big Summer Party. All ages are welcome at the free event, where there is also an impressive handful of DJs on the bill. Expect a healthy variety of entertainment along with anti-racist, anti-fascist activism.
Love Music Hate Racism @ the New Picket, 61 Jordan St, Sun 31st Aug, 1pm-11pm, free (plus donation to LMHR) www.myspace.com/lmhr

Willard Wigan
The work of possibly the world’s best micro-sculptor, Willard Wigan, is on show this weekend in the gallery at the Hard Days Night Hotel.
Wigan, who was awarded an MBE for his mind-bogglingly mini masterpieces last year, has spent this year traveling the country with his exhibition. His work includes the six wives of Henry VIII in the eye of a needle, the Titanic on the tip of a needle (pictured) and the iconic Lloyds of London building on a pinhead (which sold for £94,000). Whilst taking your wallet may be a little unrealistic, make sure you don’t forget your glasses.
Willard Wigan @ the Hard Days Night Hotel Gallery, until Sat 30th Aug, free,

One Night of Queen
Remember Stars in Their Eyes back in 2000? A secret Saturday night delight with Mathew Kelly, you might say. Gary Mullen won the 2000 TV series with his impressive Queen tribute.
The Glaswegian has since quit his job as a computer operator and works as a full time Freddie. He and his band The Works now tour the country, living the Queen-dream almost every night. The live show has so far received nothing but praise and you'll be pleased to hear that Mercury’s moustache and Brian’s barnet are well in tact for the duration of the performance.
One Night of Queen @ the Liverpool Empire, Sat 30th Aug, 7.30pm, tickets £17.50, £16 concessions, www.liverpoolempire.org.uk
Henry Rollins
The wacky Washington-born Henry Rollins is bringing his Spoken Word Show to the Carling Academy on Saturday night. Rollins, of 80s US punk band Black Flag, founded the production company 2.13.61 (his date of birth, how imaginative) and apparently went on to become somewhat of a guru in all media forms.
Name doesn’t ring a bell? How have we never heard of this radio/TV presenting movie star come singer/songwriter? All will become clear on Saturday night and you can possibly, see what you've been missing all these years.
Henry Rollins: Spoken Word Show @ the Carling Academy, Sat 30th Aug, 7pm, tickets £16, call ticketweb on 08444772000

Cannon, i agree....... what a lovely evening, im glad i dint miss it, big thanks to Oxton Oswald!
Think nothing of it, old chap! Civic duty, donchaknow!
Oh it was a splendid performance! The thirty-strong cast was a mix of professional and amateur actors and the production was most professional! It took place in a landscaped amphitheatre in the Upper Park, where Director Neil Caple said he hoped it could become an annual event (to enthusiastic applause) but it was down to funding. I for one would be very happy to pay for my ticket next year on the strength of this production!
Liverpool Confidential go hopping mad if we put web-links in postings, but if you go to the Wirral Borough Council site ( try http://wirral.gov.uk/Events/events_0000352.html with some 'w's in front) it would suggest that one just wanders in during open hours and collect some.
Thank you Oxton Oswald. It looks as you've mentioned it yourself. Another alternative for you folks
Apparently yes one does, LJ. The tickets are available at the Pavilion up to 4pm each day. I think it is because the performance area will be fenced off to keep out undesirables and get around the Council's own rules about drinking alcohol in the park. After all, what’s the point of an open-air performance in the park unless audience members can take and consume a couple of bottles of wine, a chicken, a vat of hummus and twenty Players?
Cheers Oxton, what a helpful young chap, see you in the Shrew one day perhaps, ill be the mad woman with the candelabra.....
Was just polishing the champagne glasses and dusting off the candelabra darling...... we dont have to queue for these bloody tickets do we?
Oxton, you say the event is FREE, do we have to get tickets......?
I have done the quiz several times in the Shrew. We were convinced it was fixed!
