Songs from the silver screen
Over at The Phil, don’t be surprised to hear Celine Dion leaking onto Hope Street. Not literally of course - how unpleasant would that be? Two hundred local singers will be taking the stage to belt out musical hits from the biggest films to have hit the silver screen. From Born Free to Harry Potter and yes, Titanic too, there will be something for everyone in this Oscar-filled night to remember.

Yacht to return
Down at the water front, it’s time to welcome home the Clipper 07-08 Round-the-World Yacht Race.
The Mersey hosts the climax of the world’s fastest, non-professional yachting race and a splendid time is guaranteed for all. The fleet returning includes the Liverpool 08 Yacht which whilst taking in Australia, Singapore and China, has also missed the first half of Culture Year. Doh. After 25,000 miles and 12 months of intense ocean racing, there’s sure to be jubilant scenes at the docks. Entertainment has also been promised although in what form, we’re unsure.

Sounds of Si-lence
For once the word ‘genius' is rather fitting. After all, Paul Simon's one half of one of the most revered songwriting duos of all time. He comes to the city this Sunday with his full catalogue of hits from his days of Garfunkel and Graceland. With hits to burn, including “Mrs Robinson”, “Homeward Bound”, and “Bridge over troubled waters”, you’d have to be crazy (after all these years) to not consider seeing the man, the legend – Paul Simon.

Coming at Jah
We mentioned it earlier this week, but we think it's worth mentioning again. Jah Wobble comes to the Academy with the Pagoda Chinese Youth Orchestra to bring us Chinese Dub. Combining trademark dub with Chinese melodies and instrumentation, the former Public Image bassist teams up with a 22-piece outfit made up of bass, drums, guzheng, yangchin, bamboo flute, and gourd pipe. It's unlikely to be like anything you've ever heard. So go and hear it.
