Curry is the UK’s favourite dish, with Indian restaurants welcoming over 2.5 million customers every week. This month, Scope is celebrating the nation’s love of curry with Curry Week, a countrywide event that aims to raise £500,000 towards helping local disabled children and their families.

Scope is asking you to visit a participating curry house between October 14th and the 23rd, tuck into a curry, and leave a couple of quid at the end of your meal in a SCOPE pledge envelope. I know, it’s tough this fundraising lark, but unfortunately someone has to do it.
Curry Week in the North West is taking place with the backing of Manchester Food & Drink Festival and there are some great curry-related events happening in the area over the week, such as the great Poppadom Challenge, and a wine and curry tasting event at the Lowry. All proceeds will go towards raising money for community teams who support disabled children and their families.

Louise Jagger, Head of Fundraising at Scope, said: “We’re really excited about Curry Week. We know the public loves to tuck into a Rogan Josh or Vindaloo but they’re also a generous bunch so we decided to combine the two. The curry is now a real British institution so we felt it would be the perfect vehicle for us to raise as much money as possible, but also communicate the need for disabled people to achieve equality”.
So there has never been a better excuse to fill your plate with all (edible) things Indian. What’s more, you can ease your calorie counting conscience by telling yourself that it’s all in aid of charity and you would be a bad person (and in all likelihood go to hell) if you didn’t order those extra bhajis and put another spoonful of chutney on your poppadom. So tuck in, fill your belly with curry and wash it all down with a nice beer, all in the name of charity.
