Stylist Kathryn Whittaker gives top tips for stress-free sales shopping

Shop till you drop

So the festivities are over, the detox has started and it’s bloomin’ freezing, but there is light at the end of the tunnel as the New Year heralds the arrival of some good old fashioned bargain hunting.

And with retail in a huge slump there are more cut price goodies on offer than ever. So instead of making the same old mistakes and panic buying, follow my top five tips for stress-free bargain shopping.

1. Colour Confidence:
Know which colours suit you and it will halve your shop floor and the time spent rummaging in the bargain bins. If you have a peachy complexion and red or golden hair go for browns, golds, rusts and olives. If you are a typical English rose and have a pink complexion with ash or darker hair go for pinks, sliver, emerald greens and greys.

2. Go for Gold: The sales are a great time to snap up those items that would normally be out of your price range. Try higher end stores that will give you fantastic quality and attention to detail. Think outside the box and enjoy this time of year when we all can be designer divas.

3. Shop Smart: Know what you are after and set a budget. Sales are tempting places and it’s all too easy to overspend and end up in a whole heap of trouble. Assess your wardrobe and identify what you need to enhance it. Then decide how much you are prepared to spend on each piece, setting aside a larger budget for the items that you will wear a lot. Once you have your list, decide on your target stores and shop shop shop.

4. Online Saver: Now you can shop from the comfort of your armchair with the huge growth of online shopping. Online stores have some of the best sales around so look out for super savings on electrical goods, clothing and homewears.

5. Get Real: My top tip is only buy in the sales what you would buy if it was full price. It’s no good just grabbing items because they are reduced; I guarantee that you will never wear them.

So there you go, all you need to know to be a super-smart sales shopper. What are you waiting for? Get bargain hunting.
