Pick a duck

Over 70 local companies have signed up to battle it out at the Manchester Duck Race this Easter.

First prize for the fastest corporate duck is £1000 worth of training, courtesy of leading digital media training company, Academy Class, while runners up could win a team-building fire eating workshop from Spice Manchester or lunch for the office for a week from Pret a Manger.

All proceeds will go to children’s charity, Brainwave, which helps children with brain injuries and genetic conditions benefit from home based physical and cognitive exercise programs.

The corporate duck race will take place on Good Friday 2 April at 2pm between the Albert and Irwell Street Bridges on the River Irwell and will be followed by a public duck race with around 2,000 rubber ducks.

With three-quarters of the giant rubber ducks sold and just 28 remaining, Spinningfields is urging businesses across the North West to help it reach its target of 100.

Fran Goddard, Head of Communications and Events at Spinningfields said: ‘We’re delighted with the response we’ve had so far from companies from all across the North West but we’re really keen to hit our target of 100. The corporate duck race offers a fun way for companies from across the region to come together with their families over the Easter weekend while raising funds for Brainwave.”

Corporate duck sponsors so far include Bovis Lend Lease, DLA Piper, Hammonds, Begbies Traynor, Grant Thornton, Irwin Mitchell and Spinningfields tenants’ BDO and Barclays.

The foot-high ducks cost £150 + VAT to sponsor and companies can brand their ducks as they wish with just one rule –no genetically modified ducks. Branded ducks will be automatically entered into the ‘dishiest duck’ competition with the best decorated duck winning a private screening for their entire office at this summer’s Screenfields.
