October wardrobe wants

Stylist, Kate Harrison is all fur gilet and no maxi dress as she prepares for winter

October wardrobe wants

The leaves are turning and there is that distinct nip in the air that has us grasping the extra hot latte and relegating the frappucino to a distant memory of hazy summer mornings... and gladiator sandals. Yes ladies, Autumn is upon us and do not shed a tear over packing away the maxi dress, as I tempt you with my top tips for your new season wardrobe.

Faux fur is all over the high street at the moment. Do not be afraid. Avoid the yeti look by opting for one key piece.

Lovely leather
Now we all love a great leather jacket and the classic cut should be dusted off once more and worn with pride. But this season leather is back in a big way from trousers (yes I too have that cringe worthy memory of these the first time round) to tops, skirts and dresses. Take for example this simply gorgeous white soft leather dress with cute cut out detailing from French Connection. Okay, so this trend doesn’t come cheap and at £295 it will blow the budget, but it will also see you through at least another two seasons no probs.

Strong shoulders
Of course we all know that the shoulder is back and the bigger, the better. But how do you get that catwalk look on a daily basis? The answer is simple- incorporate it into your wardrobe basics. Topshop have a fab range of basics, as always, and this autumn’s signature knitwear is fab. Grab it in every colour to brighten up a work look or dress down with jeans. At £16 you will get a price per wear of practically nowt.

Big beautiful boots
A staple for any winter wardrobe this season's boots come in three must-have styles: flat and over the knee, chunky calf length biker and ankle length skyscraper heels. Suede and leather are big with quirky colours and studs thrown in for a night time look. If you are looking for a fab pair to dress up or dress down you can't go far wrong with these over the knee grey flats from Office (£120). Look great in the daytime with skinny jeans and a chunky cardi or glam it up with a thigh skimming sequinned dress and tights.

Furry friends
Faux fur is all over the high street at the moment. Do not be afraid. Avoid the yeti look by opting for one key piece- not the fluffy boots, fluffy hat, fluffy coat combo. There are some superb snuggly shaggies out there in the likes of River Island, Topshop and Zara, but my fave is this cute gilet from Kookai (£80). Team with a long sleeve T-shirt, denim skirt, thick tights and your biker boots. Purrrrfect!
