Moroccan Market In St Ann's Square

A SLICE of North African culture will enliven St Ann ’s Square this week as the Moroccan Market of Handicraft returns to the city.

There's pottery and ceramics, handmade carpets and leather goods, plus a Moroccan Gnawa band and traditional foods – prepared with authentic herb and spices.

The touring market has chosen Manchester as a destination on its journey across the country after the remarkable success of the bazaar last year.

This is the second time the market has pitched up in the city offering five days of Moroccan culture between Tuesday 1 May and Saturday 5 May – between 9am and 5.30pm each day. There's pottery and ceramics, handmade carpets and leather goods, plus a Moroccan Gnawa band and traditional foods – prepared with authentic herb and spices.

Aziz Afkir, organiser of the Moroccan Market of Handicraft, said: "We were so pleased with the success of the Berber market last summer we just had to return to Manchester. The local people are always fantastic – they really want to immerse themselves in Moroccan culture.”

Vicky Rosin, Manchester City Council’s Deputy Chief Executive, said: "Manchester Markets continue to surprise with the varied array of traders they bring to the city. It’s fantastic to see different cultures being represented – showcasing the best in traditional crafts and foods – that go towards enriching the lives and experiences of Manchester residents.”
