Do people really care about the community and the public spaces around them? Does paying taxes make us expect the government to take charge of our surroundings, and would everyone rather spend their hard earned cashed on a villa in Spain than investing directly in the area they live. Do modern philanthropists exist and if so, who are they and how are they giving? Where as in Victorian times philanthropists invested in local parks, public spaces and people, does philanthropy now extend to world issues and global responsibility?
Guest speakers include Esther O’Callaghan OBE who established the Factory Record Store in Manchester in 2002 using profits to set up the Factory Foundation. She is also vice-president for the Community Foundation for Greater Manchester, a volunteer business mentor for the Prince's Trust and sits on the Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy Steering Committee. Jonathan Schofield, editor of Manchester Confidential will also be sharing his views.
Chaired by Howard Sharrock, media business consultant, the debate takes place at 6.30pm on Tuesday 26 February at The Circle Club, Barton Arcade.
Entrance is free to members and £5 for non members. To book your place email rsvp@thecircuitseries.com
