Miss Manchester 2006

Well, the glitter is being swept up and the bikinis packed away after Thursday night’s Miss Manchester 2006 competition, in which the beautiful Louise Cliffe was officially crowned the loveliest lady in Manchester.

The event, which was studded by stars from the small screen, the sporting world and the land of beauty pageants past and present, was held at the magnificent Palace Hotel last Thursday, in a room decorated in all things pink and girly.

41 of Manchester’s most beautiful babes took to the catwalk to parade their wares in front of a panel of celebrity judges, including ‘Hollyoaks Heart Throb’ Chris Fountain, Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton, Chris Bisson, Tim Healy, and former Beauty Queens Danielle Lloyd and Gemma Louise Henry.

As some of you may remember - Manchester Confidential’s Kelly was there, with the Mancon crew in tow for support. Well, some of us were there for support. Some of the male members of the team were there to see Kelly in her bikini. And judging from this photo – who could blame them?

The event involved three gruelling rounds – in which the bevy of beauties flaunted their stuff first of all in jeans and a white t shirt, then in an evening gown, and then the dreaded bikini. And believe me, some of these girls knew how to flaunt. A few of the displays were positively pornographic, leaving males in the audience somewhat hot under the collar.

Of course, by the bikini round our Kel was feeling a tad merry after enjoying rather a lot of Dutch courage backstage, and seemed to find the whole thing hilarious - despite suffering at the hands of a backstage bully who had pushed poor Kelly out of the way of the mirror in order to check her quiff.

Of the 41 babes, eight were selected as finalists, from which Louise Cliffe, Victoria Jackson and Gemma Roddy secured first, second and third place respectively. And as for Kelly? Angela the event organiser tells us that she narrowly missed out on the final eight to come a very respectable 9th place.

A big congratulations to the winners, and well done to all of the girls who took part. In the words of the somewhat twee host Darren Proctor , ‘lovely stuff’.
