Manchester’s world record Zombie walk attempt

Funnily enough this isn’t a Manchester International Festival event, but it makes us laugh

Published on July 7th 2009.

Manchester’s world record Zombie walk attempt

It’s ages ‘til Halloween but…

On Sunday, over a thousand zombies will lumber and shuffle around the city centre. In an attempt to break the Guiness World Record for total number of zombies in one place at one time, organisers are hoping to get over 1227 people involved. Nottingham currently hold the record.

Colin is the first feature length film from director Marc Price who did the whole thing on an anaemic budget of forty five quid. Apparently, zombie actors volunteered through Facebook

Registration begins at 6pm on Sunday and a walk around the city centre will start at 7pm. Participants are encouraged to do their own make-up at home but the organisers have posted up some helpful videos of how to transform yourself into a zombie. www.zombie-aid.com

If you don’t get time or a too lazy to mess about sticking Rice Krispies onto your face with gelatine, then there will be a few make-up artists at the Printworks as of 6pm.

It’s probably best if you do your own though as registration requires all participants to write their names down and there are going to be a lot.

Presumably this hefty sheaf of A4 lined will then be posted to Norris McWhirter, who, like a zombie, isn’t really dead. He’ll then count the names.

The first world record zombie walk attempt

There is an optional £2 registration fee to raise money for Cancer Research, Christies, Children in Need and Cash for Kids.

Tickets will also be available for a new British zombie film called Colin which will be given a special screening at the Odeon on Monday 13 July.

Colin is the first feature length film from director Marc Price who did the whole thing on an anaemic budget of forty five quid. Apparently, zombie actors volunteered through Facebook as did make-up artists, one of whom worked on X Men 3. Can anyone remember if that was any good?

The exact route of the walk is unclear but it will last about an hour and a half, concluding at the Printworks. If it rains, promoters have suggested a pub crawl instead. Good idea. A ‘Zombie Ball’ is to be held afterwards at PURE nightclub, in the Printworks with live bands and DJs.

on the subject of Zombies, etc, does anyone reckon there was a bit of his body that Micheal Jackson didn't bleach white? I can't get my head around bleaching ini between the toes, but then when did anyone see a picture of his bare feet. Or the space between his balls and bum hole (sorry don't know the name of that part of the body) did he bleach that too? Who knows apart from them cops who took pictures of him naked after he abused them kids on his fairground in his garden? What colour was the skin under his nails? In all seriousness, whoever did the bleaching; that is one for their CV isn't it. I bleached MJ. Any bleaching jobs... they get it don't they.

I suppose if the attention seeking basts pay £2 for charity it's hard to knock them.. but come on, a load of daft students dressed like zombies in town... sad or what.

For anyone attending Big Chill; there is a zombie movie being filmed at the festival and festival goers are encouraged to get involved. See http://www.ispitonyourrave.com for details.
