Manchester’s Best Sale Buys!

Happy New Year Body Confidential readers, and what better way to start 2006 than with a run down of Manchester’s top sale bargains. If the mention of the ‘s’ word leads to memories of fluorescent combat pants which just had to be bought because they were half price then sit back, relax and read on for sales style heaven!

Sales don’t have to be solely for panic bought fashion faux pas. This year pick up some real bargains which will last you into spring summer 06 by following our top tips on what’s hot in the oh so cold January sales.

Cropped Trousers:

Cropped Trousers are a great way to bring a classic outfit bang up to date. They have been around all winter with boots and tights but will stick around for spring summer worn with ballet pumps for a casual look, or jazz them up with a pair of killer heels. Check out www.laredoute.co.uk for some great straight cut styles starting from £13 in the sale! or M&S for some wide leg culottes style options. This grey pinstripe pair are from Dorothy Perkins, reduced from £35 to £25. The subtle stripe will elongate the leg and the four-button pocket adds a great detail.

The trench coat

The trench coat never goes out of fashion; it just gets reworked slightly each season, so a trench is a good sale buy. The key is to buy a good fitting classic trench and update it every season with key looks. The ribbon is a key look for Spring/Summer 06 with Burberry Prorsum's signature trench for next season tied at the waist with a thick bow. So why not pick up a bargain from some great selections in Next, H&M or Top Shop and add your own trimmings?! This black double-breasted version is from Principles and is a great example of this classic look, even better is that it is reduced from £95 to £66 so you will have to be quick to snap up this bargain! It’s also available in red for the more daring of you!

Skinny trousers

Anyone who hoped that bootlegs would stride back into fashion have another season of skinnies to endure. For summer they are worn with flats or heels rather than tucked in boots and come in the darker denims and black plus a whole range of unforgiving pastels and whites. Definitely a style to avoid if you are anything other than a skinny, young model type. Some stores like H&M aren't putting their skinnies on sale but Diesel's 'Keat' skinny jeans will be up for grabs, as will Gap skinny cords. This pair is from Dorothy Perkins and a snip at £25, the mid blue denim wash makes for an adaptable option which can be easily dressed up or down.

Cashmere

Warm for winter, breathable in summer, cashmere is every girl's best friend all year round. Black and white are important colours for next season but lemons, metallics and even the odd bit of royal purple are also doing the rounds. Pick up your bargain from M&S - www.marksandspencer.co.uk - who have a great range of tops and wraps. The featured cardigan in a bright crushed raspberry (£45 reduced from £65) makes for a great wardrobe staple, make it your own with a set of bold coloured beads or a printed scarf tied round the neck.

Bold prints

Great news for those who like a bit of colour in their wardrobes- and why not?! Although black is a key look for next season the trend for bold vibrant prints will continue on the high street with influences drawn from the catwalk collections of Julien Macdonald and Dolce & Gabbana. This great little aqua number is from www.asos.com and an absolute bargain, in the sale at just £12! Wear it over jeans for a colourful twist on boho chic.

The platform shoe

The platform shoe was one of this season's big hits – very flattering as a wedge or a platform court shoe and much less wince inducing than stilettos! You'll be able to wear them well into next season, as they were prominent on the spring/summer 06 catwalks for Miu Miu, Dolce & Gabbana and John Galliano. They come in some great bold colours, prints and patterns so why not inject a bit of fun into your outfit with some funky platforms? This stunning pair are still a bit of an extravagance at £209 reduce from £299 from Georgina Goodman at www.vivaladiva.com, but Faith, Dune and M&S have just a gorgeous more purse friendly options.

So there you go, a few hints on Manchester’s smartest sale buys guaranteed to enhance rather than hinder your wardrobe! Happy bargain hunting!
