Manchester235 Poker Blog Two

Chris “Dirty Cash” Grimes keeps Team Confidential’s pecker up

Manchester235 Poker Blog Two

After Kelly ‘The Black Widow’ Ormesher came 2nd in last week’s Manchester235 poker classic (see blog here) the pressure in the office was on. Being a poker blogger with a bounty on your head comes with its own dangers, but it has advantages too.

After winning a few more hands I was chip leader going into the final table. I went from strength to strength, knocking out four of 10 players.

Having played with Kelly a few times I knew her game was good, especially when she won the Redtooth Poker league in her area last year.

The Poker Lounge at 235 reminds me of the poker rooms in Las Vegas; well branded with its own tables and poker chips, the small attention to detail which makes the poker experience more fun.

Sometimes in re-buy no limit games, the first hour becomes a bit of a crap shoot but not on my table. Poker in its purest form was being played with a chap called Russell Grady making the most of the early betting and heading into a chip lead.

Having not played many hands in the first hour, I finally picked up 10H 8H; the action had come to me in the big blind with no raise from other players. I raised to three times the big blind which was 300 and got three callers – the flop was 9S JH AH which was good for me. First to act I raised 1,000 with two callers, and the next card was 9C. Again, the action was on me.

This time I checked with the next player betting 3,000 with the following player folding. I’d usually lay this down but as we were still in the rebuy period, I went all in for the rest of my chips and the KH comes on the river - much to my joy. I’ve got a flush.

The joy was short-lived however, as the other player turned over K9 for a full house.

Chips please!

But then things changed. I started to use more controlled aggression with my hands and having got up to 13,500 chips I got dealt pocket aces. I raised to 900 and got a re-raise from a bloke called Daniel Jebreel, to 3,000. Everyone else folded.

Daniel only had another 4,500 left so I pushed all in. Daniel turned over JJ against my AA and the flop, turn and river brought out nothing of note, so I claimed the chips.

After winning a few more hands I was chip leader going into the final table. I went from strength to strength, knocking out four of 10 players.

That left me able to bully chips by defending my blind and making moves with good cards, as nobody likes going out on the bubble.

It came down to the final two on the table – me and Daz F, who had played a patient game despite being short-stacked.

Heads up!

Now I really wanted to win, just to outdo Kelly. We are Team Confidential, but there’s always a bit of healthy competition within the ranks.

The final hand gave me 6D 5D and the blinds were 4,000-8,000, I was small blind and raised to 20,000, which Daz called but the flop came 6S 5H 3C. I raised 20,000, which Daz called and the turn was JC.

It was all in from me with an instant call from Daz who turned over J3 against my 65. The river didn’t help so Daz took the title, and well done to him.

Second place and £110 – not bad for a Tuesday night. Team Confidential are bringing home the bacon so far – come and join us in the next tournament.

You’ll recognise me or Kelly at the tables. We’ll be the ones taking money off you.
