Manchester Midnight Walk 2009

Celebrities, cheerleaders and Mr Motivator get their walk on for charity

Manchester Midnight Walk 2009

Over 3,200 walkers took to Manchester’s streets last Friday on the stroke of midnight, to join leotard-loving Mr Motivator in a 10km trek round the city in aid of St Ann’s Hospice’s annual Manchester Midnight Walk.

Starting at 10pm, the night kicked off with entertainment from local bands and an auction of signed t-shirts from Take That, Chelsea FC (er...very Manchester. Ed), Sean Wright-Phillips and Andy Cole.

The Manchester Midnight Walk aims to make a significant contribution to the £9m St Ann's Hospice needs every year to offer its wide range of services, of which only 35% is received from government funding.

Celebrities were egged on by Mr Motivator alongside a squad of cheerleaders and avid midnight walkers (many of whom were dressed in pyjamas or fancy dress). All in all it was their biggest fundraiser to date with over 2000 walkers.

Catherine Williams, director of fundraising and communications for the hospice, said: “We want to thank everyone who helped make this year’s Manchester Midnight Walk such a success. We were overwhelmed with the number of participants on the starting line who were so excited and uniquely dressed and willing to give their evening to help such a worthy cause.”

“The help and support from everyone involved in tonight’s event will mean the hospice can continue to offer a superb standard of care not only to patients, but to their families and carers as well.”
