Manchester Midnight Walk

Corrie lads get in on the action

Published on April 23rd 2008.

Manchester Midnight Walk

The annual Manchester Midnight Walk begins and ends at the City of Manchester Stadium a next month and the stars are already gearing up for action.

Coronation Street actors Sam Aston and Ben Thompson (Chesney and Ryan), recently started preparing for the 2008 Manchester Midnight Walk with a little help from the Army and encouraged by their Street dog friends, Schmeichel and Ozzie.

Ben Thompson said: “I’m really glad to be involved this year and I’m looking forward to what promises to be a fantastic night – grab some friends and join Sam and me.”

With over 1000 participants last year, the walk raised £82,000 for charity. This year the event is set to raise even more, contributing to the £9 million which St Ann's Hospice needs every year to offer its wide range of services.

Recruiting officers from the Armed Forces Careers Office on Peter Street went through a six week fitness programme with the young stars to boost their stamina before the 10km sponsored trek around the city centre on May 23.

Major Mike McDonald, Area Recruiting Officer, Manchester said: “The PTIs have developed this fitness programme to ensure that anyone wanting to get involved in the Manchester Midnight Walk has a helping hand if they want to increase their fitness beforehand. We are really happy to get involved for the second year running – last year our lads had a great time warming up an amazing group of people and walking alongside them and we’re looking forward to doing the same again this year.”
