Ethiopian, Haile Gebrselassie, 37, reclaimed his title after winning the Great Manchester Run for the third time, in 28 minutes two seconds. Worknesh Kidane of Ethiopia won the women's race in 31 minutes 19 seconds.
Jo Pavey was Britain's top female finisher in fifth while Mark Wharmby was the leading British men's competitor in sixth.
The wheelchair races were won by David Weir (22 minutes) and Shelly Woods (25 minutes 15 seconds). Professional athletes were followed by 36,000 runners, many of which were running for various charities.
The event is now one of the biggest 10k runs in the world with the number of participants having more than tripled since its launch in 2003.
Our pictures were taken from close to the top of Beetham Tower, here are two of the proud runners too, who both covered the distance in less than 45 minutes.
