Mamma Mia!

Published on February 8th 2006.

Mamma Mia! has taken the world by storm since its debut in 1999, and has finally decided to come to Manchester to show us what we’ve been missing out on. And about time too.

An absolute must for any Abba fan, the musical incorporates 22 of the quartet’s hits to create a sunny, funny story about family and friendship on a Greek Island paradise. Inspired by the story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs, writer Catherine Johnson’s tale follows a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father, bringing 3 men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago.

Mamma Mia! is the world’s number one musical, with 11 productions simultaneously playing in cities around the world. Since its stage premiere seven years ago, Mamma Mia! has gone on to gross over £132 million at the UK Box Office and over 1.4 billion dollars worldwide. More than 24 million people have seen the show worldwide.

The show will play at Manchester’s Palace Theatre over Christmas, staying with us for twelve weeks from 7th November 2006 until 27th January 2007. Producer Judy Craymer anticipates the show’s success in the North West: "It’s fantastic that the MAMMA MIA! International Tour is coming to Manchester. It’s such a vibrant city, well known for its love of arts and culture and we hope Manchester takes MAMMA MIA! to its hearts as has happened all over the world. We are looking forward to making it a Christmas to remember in Manchester!"

Tickets for the show are on sale now, and will be snapped up quickly, so make sure that you don’t miss the chance to see the world’s number one musical when it brightens up Manchester this winter.

Tickets are now available from the Palace Theatre Box Office on 0870 401 3000 and the usual Ticketmaster outlets.
