Lever Arts Prize 2011

Band On The Wall, The Whitworth Art Gallery, The Lowry and the Tatton Park Biennial are all on the shortlist for the prestigious Lever Arts Prize 2011.

The prize is an annual award honouring exceptional arts organisations in the North West. It’s given by the North West Business Leadership Team (NWBLT) - a group of some of the country's most influential business people. The winner gets a £10,000 cash prize and the opportunity to work with NWBLT members during their winning year.

Geoffrey Piper, chief executive of NWBLT, said “The calibre of the entries for the 2011 Lever Prize has been of an exceptionally high standard. The mission of the Lever Prize is to highlight the North West as being a bright, contemporary place for art and culture to develop and we believe that that can be achieved best through collaboration with business.”

The Lever Prize was first awarded in 2006 to the Liverpool Biennial of Contemporary Art and has since honoured the Manchester International Festival, Tate Liverpool and the National Football Museum.

In 2010, the award went to the Manchester Digital Arts Festival, FutureEverything.

The shortlisted companies will each deliver a presentation on September 20 and the winner will be announced at a presentation event in Manchester next March.
