Insider Property Awards 2005

Published on June 29th 2005.

Gordo went to this last year as a guest of Argent, at The Palace Hotel. This year he was compelled to split his attention between a trip to the Fantasy Bar (naked women) and the Insider Property Awards (drunken blokes and not a few ladies who could probably double their salaries dancing up and down poles in Phil Yates’ Fantasy Bar – you know who you are and you needn’t be concerned should their be a property crash. Talk to Gordo).

Gordo is honour - bound not to discuss the goings on at the stag do. What about the awards? Michael Taylor was nowhere to be seen at 10.30 pm, some wag suggested that I look under the tables. Simon Scott of Bruntwood, resplendent yet once again in velvet jacket and funny trews spent half an hour suggesting that Gordo and he abseil down City Tower for charity. Yeah. That would be a strong rope and a packet of valium for Gordo. Helen Thomas looked fabulous; a great sport, she actually saw Gordo off at three in the morning at The Circle. Blimey.

Lady Helen Lavinia Freeborough picked up the award for Residential Property developer/house builder of the year for her firm, LPC, the full listing can be found below.

The awards were held at the conference centre next door to G-Mex which was a great improvement on the Palace Hotel last year; everyone complimented the organisers and the food.

The usual suspects departed at one o’clock and reconvened in Panacea, Gordo getting a bollocking off Joe Acker for the stick Manchester Confidential have been giving the bar recently over the door policy. One thing needs to be said, it is one of the best bars in town once you are in. Blinding service and drinks, comfortable to boot. Gordo is going to have a chat with Joe to see if we can tune the door policy. Young Miss Wiseberg, daughter of Adam was there on top form with owner of Uber cool bar Odyssey, Arnie Hira and his gaffer, Joe. Joe bought Gordo a drink! Blimey. Good man Joe.

Thrown out at two o’clock, the team wandered down to The Circle. Gordo said he would get everyone in. Reaching the rope and looking back down the alley Gordo was thinking he had bitten off more than he could chew. He realised what the Pied Piper must have felt like, thirty or so members of Manchester’s property elite in various stages of alcohol poisoning were stood grinning at him.

We did get in and in testament to them all Gordo was the first out at three am. Not often that happens.
