Heroes Tasting Night At Taps

We check out the new head chef and new menu at Taps

Published on April 10th 2012.

Heroes Tasting Night At Taps

A group of Manchester Confidential Heroes were invited to Taps recently to give their verdict on the handiwork of new head chef, David Roache. He's put together an intriguing new menu designed to take your attention away from those 'pour your own' beer taps winking at you from the middle of your table, for a short while at least.

Heroes praised the informative staff and friendly service, and 'really great food'

046Taps is the first UK restaurant with the technology to let you pour your own pints. Super crisp Japanese beer Asahi is the newest addition to the help-yourself selection, and Heroes wasted no time in pouring themselves a pint as an opener. The Blue Moon wheat ale and Liefmans fruit beer, both from Belgian, also went down well.

The food was the main event though. We were served a six course taster menu starting with a delightful crayfish and avocado salad, and a soft, flavoursome black pudding scotch egg. This was swiftly followed by Moules Bruges, pork belly and crackling (the perfect accompaniment to a pint of fine ale), and butternut squash parcels. A scrumptious toffee and date pudding in butterscotch sauce ended the adventure.

One Hero, describing himself as a 'mussels virgin', was particularly impressed by the Moules Bruges. Others praised the informative staff and friendly service, and 'really great food'.

Some of the Heroes hadn't been to Taps before and promised that they'll be back soon with their friends. If you like the sound of it, why not go for a meal there this weekend? Taps is in the Great Northern Tower, just off Deansgate. Call them on 0161 819 5167 to book a table.
