Head Case

A burnt, peeling scalp looks like a severe case of dandruff, use your head and buy a sun hat.

Head Case

Wow…How hot is it? Keeping cool in this weather is a military operation with hand held fans and iced water being snapped up faster than this season’s must have handbag.

To protect your scalp from burning, obviously the best thing is to stay in the shade. However, you can increase your protection by wearing a hat. Thankfully hats are big news this season, so whether you are sashaying down a beach or just out in your back garden, use your head and opt for some serious statements.

The cowboy hat has been around for a while now, with the likes of Posh, Sienna and Pammy all sporting this classic look. Its practical design will keep you cool while still looking funky. Try this neutral coloured option £20 from Accessorize, it will go with everything in your wardrobe.

Bold prints are everywhere at the moment and using them on a hat will bring interest to a plain outfit. Try using unusual patterns and colours like this black and white zebra print option, £35 from www.newurban.co.uk.

If you fancy upping the glam in the headgear stakes then think J-Lo. She is a regular at her local milliners and always opts for a large brimmed floppy style, perfect for hiding her peepers from all those pesky paparazzi, or just the Manchester sunshine. This brightly coloured green creation from Marks & Spencer looks much more expensive than its tiny £10 price tag and is guaranteed to turn a few heads.

If cute and sporty is your bag then why not try a baker boy inspired look? This practical and trendy option is perfect for shading your eyes and will have you looking super stylish in seconds. To avoid overheating opt for a neutral colour and a light fabric like this one from Accessorize £12.

Make a splash with bold colour in you hats. Eva Longoria has been spotted in some cute bucket style headgear recently and it’s a great casual look to try with shorts and flip-flops. This pink stripy number is super stylish and is perfect for a holiday staple. You had better be quick though! It’s only £5 from Marks & Spencer and my guess is that it won’t be staying put for long.

So there you go, styles to suit all tastes and budgets. Now its time to get out there and have safe sun.
