Free kid's ticket to Blue Planet Aquarium

Free kid's ticket to Blue Planet Aquarium

Here's a local attraction that will get the little ones wide-eyed in wonderment this half term. The Blue Planet Aquarium is home to an awe-inspiring collection of creatures – huge sharks, venomous spiders, rainbow-coloured fish, and some very cute dwarf crocodiles. It's located at junction 10 of the M53 (off the M56), so it's an easy drive from Manchester and Liverpool. And with this voucher, worth £10.75 and valid until 13 June, you can take a child in for free with a full paying adult.

The aquarium's newest attraction is 'Venom' – a collection of the world's most venomous animals behind specially reinforced displays that allow you to get as close as you dare.

The aquarium's newest attraction is 'Venom' – a collection of the planet's deadliest animals behind specially reinforced displays that allow you to get as close as you dare. The Tarantula Tower sounds like a horrifying experience (for arachnophobes at least) – it takes you face to face with over 50 giant spiders. Other scary beasts include stinging jellyfish, the white lipped tree viper, and stonefish – the world's most lethal fish.

The three-metre-long sharks almost sound tame in comparison to all that. Though when they're giving you their dead-eyed stare through the glass of the Aquatunnel, you might think differently. Blue Planet Aquarium is home to the largest collection of sharks in Europe, and their Aquatunnel is one of the longest in the world at 70m long. It's a fantastic way to see the shoals of tropical fish as well as the circling sharks.

There's also an Aquatheatre where a presenter will tell you all about the creatures swimming by, plus loads of aquatic environments, from swamps to coral reefs to rainforests, all complete with their own collection of fishy or reptilian inhabitants. Outside you'll find a spacious otter enclosure and a pirate-themed adventure playground.

The aquarium is a great place to go if you want a holiday attraction that sneaks in a bit of learning amongst all the fun – the displays are aimed at children and contain loads of interesting facts about the creatures and the aquarium's conservation work.

There's also a cafe, free parking, and that all-important feature, a souvenir shop. Blue Planet Aquarium is open from 10am to 6pm during school holidays and weekends (5pm on weekdays outside of school holidays).
