Free classical concerts at Spinningfields

Last week visitors to Spinningfields were entertained by live jazz. This week, diners will be treated to performances by classical musicians as they eat alfresco in the city's new restaurant district.

A duo called 4 by 6 will take to the stage on Friday between 6pm and 8pm. Made up of Caroline Kelly (violin) and Daniel MacFarlane (guitar), the two completed their studies at The Royal Northern College of Music and Salford University respectively. Friday’s show is the first in a number of weekend performances by 4 by 6 at Spinningfields.

Popular Manchester-based string quartet Litmus are unlike any other classical quartet – they recreate music by famous Manchester bands including Oasis, Joy Division, James and The Smiths. Litmus will play two sets over the weekend on Friday and Sunday afternoon between 12pm and 2pm.

You can get to Spinningfields from Deansgate, Bridge Street and Quay Street. The stage is located on the banks of the River Irwell at the end of Hardman Boulevard. The concerts are part of a wide range of free events planned for the coming months, including weekly performances by musicians, comedians and theatre groups. To find out more about events at Spinningfields click here.
