Discover Champagne

Published on November 28th 2005.

I don't know about you, but to me all Champagne tastes the same, whether it's Dom Perignon or Aldi. I think it's true to say that while many of us consider ourselves pretty wine-savvy, those who can really differentiate between different types of bubbly are few and far between. So with the party season now upon us, what better time to brush up on your champagne tasting skills? Great John Street Hotel are offering the opportunity to do just that, all in the name of charity.

A Champagne tasting evening will be held in the luxurious surroundings of the Great John Street Hotel on Tuesday the 29th November, with all proceeds going to St Ann 's Hospice.

With well over 5,000 varieties of champagne in the world, deciding which to choose can be pretty baffling, but not if you know what to look for, which style of champagne you prefer, and how to taste, see and smell the difference.

In an informal participative atmosphere, guests will taste 8 different varieties of champagne that illustrate the types of grapes used, the art of blending, how rosé champagne is made and what makes vintage champagne different.

By the end of the evening you will be able to taste and appreciate different types of champagne and then go forth and wow friends and family with your newly acquired knowledge, all in the name of raising money for a worthy cause.

Tickets to the event are £25, and canapés will be served.

Contact Jiles Halling on 01625 581810 for more information, or e-mail sparkle@champagne-discovery.co.uk to reserve your place.

Tuesday 29th November 2005, 7.30pm – 9.30pm.
