Aidan Moffat

The album is the critically acclaimed I Can Hear Your Heart. The Man is the filthy mouthed ex-Arab Strapper, dubbed the Scots Bukowski. An evening of poetry and music with a very special guest in the shape of Alun Woodward (ex Delgado). Its tough to know what to expect but it'll definitely be a different kind of gig. Probably best to leave the kids at home for this one.

CIRCUS

Cirque Surreal

Beth Essex

Beth Essex was selected as the winner of the second Graduate Exhibition Award by Manchester Craft and Desgin Centre. She will now show her work in a three month solo exhibition as part of the centre’s exhibition programme. Beth’s range of beautifully delicate jewellery combines textiles, porcelain and metal, influenced by her research into family heirlooms. Beth's own interest in jewellery is that it fascinates her as a potential vehicle to express identity. Throughout history, cultures have used jewellery to symbolise status, wealth or standing within the community and as a marker for belonging.

Son of Ranbow (12A)

80's kids, Will Proudfoot and Lee Carter set about making their own action epic after watching a pirate copy of Rambo: First Blood. Wild and scheming imaginations transcend into daring stunts all whilst dodging The Brethren (a relgious sect) which threatens to censor the daredevil duo. A charming inventive flick with all the joys of childhood humour and innocence.

Whip it- Saki Bar

Whip It is combines a quirky and slightly perculiar mish-mosh mix of electronica, dance, nu-rave and indie with Djs playing the likes of M.I.A, Hot Chip, Daft Punk, Chromeo and Robots in Disguise. If that's not enough to convince you then maybe the £1.50 selected bottles of beer and £2 house double and mixer might intice you.

'It's oh so quiet, shhhh, shhhh'...or at least it will be until Bjork arrives at the Manchester Apollo with music from her 11 albums and loud outfits to match her distinctively garish persona. The 42-year-old (who still doesnt look a day over 14-years-old) will be arriving with her band of merry musicians, this week.

Water Lillies (15)

A Gallic coming-of-age drama with an Esther Williams’ twist, this directorial début by writer-director Sciamma follows the trials and triumphs of a trio of teenage girls one hot summer in a Parisian suburb. Marie, Anne and Floriane are all 15. The last two are members of a winning synchronised swimming team and Marie is Anne’s best friend. Budding sexuality and teenage lust work their magic and mayhem, with plain Anne fancying a boy, François, who fancies the beautiful Floriane, who in turn is fancied by Marie. It's French teenage angst with English subtitles.

COMEDY

An audience with Peter Sallis

Star of the screen, Peter Sallis has been the face and the voice of many well-loved characters over the years. From the voice of ‘Wallace’ in Wallace and Gromit television films The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave, to the character of Norman Clegg in Last of The Summer Wine. More recently, he completed a cameo role in the feature film Colour Me Kubrick starring John Malkovich. The latest series of ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ has just completed filming and his autobiography ‘Fading Into The Limelight’ has just been published.

FINA World Swimming Championships

The M.E.N. Arena has been transformed into a waterworld ahead of the FINA World Swimming Championships which will see 650 of the world's greatest swimmers from 120 different countries competing in the first world swimming championship of its kind ever to be staged in the UK. With spectacular lighting and sound displays, 7,500 fans at each session, it will be an unforgettable experience.
