Cohesion Live

Don’t you just love it when everything fits nicely into place? The place in this instance is Platt Fields Park, and getting together there for one day only will be some of the UK’s favourite artists, including Badly Drawn Boy, Elbow, and Graham Coxon.

Giving the 2006 summer festival season a decent send off, Cohesion Live is Manchester’s biggest and newest outdoor music festival. On the 23rd September Platt Fields Park will spring to life with the sounds of some of the UK’s finest acts playing across 2 stages, while special guests will provide intimate shows in smaller performance areas.

While this is all very well, my research has thrown up a bit of a spanner in the works that the event organisers apparently didn’t see coming. The day of the festival, September 23rd, is also grandparents’ day. This means that many people will be facing the tough decision of whether to spend the day with their nans or go to Cohesion. Perhaps some people will compromise and take their nans with them. If you notice a high influx of confused old people there on the day, you now know why.

Highlights from the line up will include (deep breath): Badly Drawn Boy, Elbow, Graham Coxon, Andy Rourke, Lou Rhodes, The Longcut, I am Kloot, Tool Shed, The Sunshine Underground and many more. And breathe.

As well as the music, there’ll be lots going on around the park, with markets, bars, food, and a visual arts area.

Cohesion Live has been organised to raise money to complete the Manchester Peace Park Project in Kosovo, and follows the 2001 Cohesion album which funded various post war recovery projects in Kosovo.

The tickets are £19.50 each, and are undeniably well worth it. Tickets are available from ticketline – click here
