Upper Space presents 'Home' - Street Art Exhibition And Website Launch Party @ Islington Mill
Time: 8pm – 4am
Music: Various: Electronic / Dub / Hip Hop / House / Drum & Bass / Experimental
Price: Free
Upper SpaceMy street art career was short but memorable. As an inquisitorial (source: “curious” at synonyms.com) 8-year-old I wrote my name with a stick in some wet cement outside my neighbour’s house. It opened a few doors for me, mostly the screaming neighbours door, but I realised I’d done all I could and my legacy lived on, engrained in the streets to help stimulate future tourism for the area.
Unlike my brief but successful foray into the street art scene, Upper Space a non-profit street art organisation is on a mission to bring street art to the masses. Founded in 2007 they use their art as a creative communication tool for social activism. Their “pretty pictures on wall with a twist” ride the socially acceptable donkey very close to the cliff edge.
In conjunction with their new website launch, ‘Home’ has been developed by streets artists from the UK and Europe who have worked alongside The Limes Young Persons Hostel to showcase art portraying the issues facing frontline homeless organisations and the people they support.
Not ones to create jealousy and tension between your senses, the visual treats will be accompanied by a generous musical platter with portions of live music dished up from around the globe with Flako, Blacksmif, Dayse & Aver, Zoir, Herbal Sessions and Mind On Fire all satisfying your eardrum hunger.
