A Tribute To Larry Levan (European Tour) @ Soup Kitchen
Time: 10pm – 6am (last admittance is 2am even with a ticket)
Music: Disco / Dance / House
Price: £10 advance
Larry LevanIn the late 70s, Larry Levan’s disco music created a cultural diversity trifle layered with punks, latinos, blacks, whites and anybody pigeon holed in between, strutting their stuff to his eclectic mixes at the illustrious Paradise Garage in New York City.
He was coined as the ‘Diva of Disco’, once, by me, in this very sentence. In more notable and recognised accolades, his sets are often pinpointed as a pivotal moment in music with a major shift towards emphasising the DJ as the focal point for the crowd.
Recently, in a purely plutonic non-incestual way, BBC cousins 6 Music and Radio 1 recently partnered to broadcast Larry Fontana’s commemorative documentary of the late legendary DJ entitled ‘Legends of the Dancefloor: A Piece of Paradise’.
Lenny Fontana will be joined at the Soup Kitchen as part of their final European tour date with former Paradise Garage resident Victor Rosado and support from Wet Play and Zunday Zocial providing boogie inducing noises for you to “experience the spirit and the message of the Garage, unifying people from all walks of life through music."
If you are currently sporting flares, an afro, moustache, platform shoes you get into using a step ladder or any other stereotypically disco garments, then this is your event this weekend.

More listings along these lines wouldn't go amiss. And not just for clubs.
