Christmas Lights Switch-on: Friday 7 November

The Christmas Lights Switch-on takes place on Friday 7 November and they're not scrimping on the celebrities. With appearances from X Factor winner Leon Jackson, Strictly Come Dancing winner Alesha Dixon, ex- Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson, Martial arts duo Strike from Britain's Got Talent, plus the cast of two musicals, we're wondering how they're all going to fit on stage.

Leon Jackson will be topping the bill with Alesha Dixon – and presumably flicking the switch.

Leon’s just released his début album Right Now, and will be performing tracks including his single 'Don't Call This Love' for the crowd. Alesha will be singing her own new tune ‘Boy Does Nothing’ – hopefully not referring to Leon with the title.

Actor Gemma Atkinson is appearing as Peter Pan at the Opera House's panto. She'll be chatting about that, and her sidekicks from the show, the Kung Fu pirates (aka Strike) will be showing off their karate moves.

Stars from The Library Theatre's adaptation of Dickens' Great Expectations will also be stopping by, along with Dorothy and her friends from The Lowry Theatre's production of the Wizard of Oz. They'll be performing an exclusive preview of one of the show's numbers.

Father Christmas will be there in person; he'll be taking part in a special performance with Frosty the Snowman. And of course there'll be a spectacular fireworks finale, this year courtesy of the Mary Poppins show from the Palace Theatre.

Century Radio's Bigger Breakfast presenters, Ditchy and Salty, will be the hosts holding it all together. All in all, it looks like it'll be an fun evening for families, with plenty of top-class performers, music, comedy, and Christmas-related excitement.

The Christmas Lights Switch-on takes place on Friday 7 November, Albert Square from 6pm with the main show taking place from 6.30pm-7.30pm.
