Chinese New Year Celebrations In Manchester

MANCHESTER is ready to celebrate the Chinese New Year on Friday 27 - Sunday 29 January.

The city and its residents will see in the year of the dragon with performances, stalls and a fireworks display.

The festivities are due to kick off at Manchester Central Exchange Auditorium with a variety show put on by the Chinese Art Troupe on the Friday. Chinatown and Albert Square will play host to stalls and entertainment on the Sunday.

Last year’s celebrations drew in over 65,000 people and Manchester City Council is expecting even more this time around.

The council has also warned that there will be road closures in the city centre on Sunday 29 January as a result. The roads in Chinatown - the area between Princess St, Portland St, New York St and Mosley St - will be closed from 6pm until midnight.

New York St itself will not be affected and Princess St will only be closed between 11am and 6pm, from Cross St to Portland St.

The events and attractions are free to enter for anyone wanting to get involved.
