Acoustic singer-songwriters who don't cite Bob Dylan as one of their influences are as rare as an original pressing of his Freewheelin' album. So promoters Acousticfest doubtless found it fairly easy to fill the line-up for this three-day tribute event. With over 40 acts from the UK and Ireland appearing, M19 Bar in Levenshulme will be attracting Dylan purists and new-acoustic fans alike on Friday 29, Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 August.
Lawrence Hennigan, the owner of M19 Bar, explains what it's all about: “We wanted to do something to mark Bob Dylan’s infamous concert just over 42 years ago at Manchester’s Free Trade Hall where he was called a ‘Judas’ for going electric by a member of the audience. A bootleg recording of the concert was released in 1998 and we thought it would be an ideal opportunity to mark its tenth anniversary.”
The line-up includes Irish acts Aine Duffy, The Resistance and Emer O’Neill, plus many others.
