Run! Don’t walk! Chorlton water park has been overtaken by Blue-Green algae, and it seems that nothing can stop it!
The naturally occurring algae was discovered in the lake at the water park off Maitland Avenue, probably due to the recent spell of warm, wet weather.
The algae can cause serious health problems if swallowed, and contact can cause skin problems. It seems that nobody is safe, so keep hold of your pets, children and elderly relatives when near the water.
Consuming everything in its path, the blue-green algae is currently battling against the combined forces of Manchester City council and the Environment Agency, who are struggling to control the slime and minimise its impact.
Councillor Mark Hackett said:
“We are urging people to cooperate and stay away from the water. It is for the safety of the public”
All water activities have been cancelled until further notice, with all contact with the water prohibited until the algae is at a safe level.
If in doubt, stay indoors.
